Multiple Ways to Care for Yourself with the 5 Koshas

Have you ever wondered why true well-being is not limited to the body? Why sometimes, despite a healthy diet or exercise, you don’t feel completely ‘in balance’?
 
In Vedic teachings, the human being is described as a multilayered being – consisting of five layers (Koshas), ranging from the coarsest to the finest, pure level of consciousness. They envelop your ‘Self’, your innermost being, which is always at peace and wants the best for you and others. Each of these layers affects your well-being, your energy and your spiritual development.
 
The 5 Koshas – the 5 layers or bodies:
 
1. The physical body (Annamaya Kosha)
Your visible body – organs, muscles, bones. It is influenced by nutrition, sleep and movement.
 
2. The energetic body (Pranamaya Kosha)
Your life energy – it flows through energy centres & pathways (chakras & nadis). You may also know the energetic body from Traditional Chinese Medicine with the effects of emotions on meridians and organs. Healing methods directly here are for example acupuncture, Qi Gong and Pranayama.
 
3. The mental/emotional body (Manomaya Kosha)
Your thoughts, beliefs & perception. Everything you think shapes your reality. Meditation, affirmations & resonance repatterning help to transform negative emotions and thoughts into positive ones.
 
4. The wisdom body (Vijnanamaya Kosha)
Your inner guidance – intuition, wisdom, insight. Through silence, reflection and experience, you strengthen your wisdom and discernment. Here you can write a diary in which you write down what you have learned from certain situations, what you are grateful for and cultivate your intentions for your life.
 
5. The bliss body (Anandamaya Kosha)
This is where you experience joy and connection. There are no more diagnoses or forms of therapy here.
 
All these layers are interconnected.
