25. & 26.06.2016: Yoga for Beginners Workshop

Are you new to yoga or a beginner?

You’ve come to the right place. This workshop will make yoga classes accessible to everyone who has never done yoga before. It is also for people, who are already practicing and want to deepen their practice and understanding of yoga.

In this yoga workshop I will lead you gently through the foundations of yoga with its different aspects; yoga postures, meditation, pranayama, relaxation, yoga background and yoga for people of today. We will also touch on aspects of healthy nutrition.

After the yoga workshop you will feel confident to visit regular yoga classes and to practice at home. Those of you who are already practicing yoga have the opportunity to learn more about foundations and ideas that are not always explained during a regular yoga class. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and we will go into  the details of basic yoga postures, meditation and pranayama.

When and where?

The workshop takes place at YogaNation, Seefeldstrasse 7a, 8008 Zürich. The schedule is as follows:

  • Session 1: Saturday, 25th of June 2016 from 1pm-3:30pm and
  • Session 2: Sunday, 26th of June 2016 from 9am-11:30am

What to expect

Both parts, Saturday and Sunday, will be held in a workshop-style with practice, theory and time for questions. Connect to other like-minded people and make new friends. You will learn meditation practices, breathing exercises and yoga postures step-by-step. Both sessions finish in a long, rejuvenating deep relaxation pose. On both days, the program is as follows:

  • Welcome and introduction to the theme of each day
  • Meditation
  • Breathing exercises (pranayama)
  • Yoga practice and basic yoga postures in-depth (asanas)
  • Theme of the day and time for questions
  • Deep relaxation

Theme of Day 1: You will learn a simple meditation, proper yogic breathing techniques, sun salutations and proper alignment in yoga postures step-by-step in different groups of asanas, e.g. standing poses or hip openers. The first day covers physical alignment so that you feel safe when practicing yoga. We will discuss how yoga not only affects your body but can also calm your mind and emotions.

Theme of Day 2: We will deepen the practices from the first day. This session focuses more on the energetic aspect of the yoga postures. You will learn energetic principles such as breathing, connecting and rooting during your practice. With these in place you will gain a sense of stability, lightness, freedom and space in each posture. Everything is experienced and explored in an experiential manner. We will discuss how you can integrate yoga into your day in a light and yet effective manner.
